Leaving Deanway Marina: The Start of Our Southbound Journey

After staying in Deanway for a little longer than planned due to personal reasons, we are excited to finally say goodbye to the marina and begin our journey south. In this episode, we’ll leave Deanway Marina, sail through the Menai Straits, and make our way down towards Porth Dinlas.

Departing From Deanway

The day has finally arrived! After spending quite some time in the lovely Deanway Marina, we are setting off on our next adventure. We’ve had a fantastic time staying at this marina and making friends with other boaters like Tony and Aynsha, whom we can’t thank enough for their support during Melissa’s health issues. However, it is time to move forward.

Sailing Through the Menai Straits

As we leave Deanway, our first destination is to sail through the Menai Straits. The Straits are known for their strong currents, eddies, and hidden rocks, which can make navigating a bit tricky. However, we’re confident in our skills and experience.

Key Landmarks on the Journey

During our journey through the Menai Straits, we passed several key landmarks. These include the Menai Suspension Bridge, built by Thomas Telford in 1826, and the Britannia Bridge, rebuilt after a fire in 1970. We also saw Plas Newydd, an 18th-century stately home with gardens designed by landscape architect Humphrey Repton.

The Decision to Stop at Porth Dinlas

Initially, we considered skipping Porth Dinlas and sailing directly down to South Wales. However, after some discussion, we decided to make a stop at Porth Dinlas, which is very close to where we used to live. It’s always nice to revisit familiar places, and the journey would be more enjoyable without rushing through it.

Arriving at Porth Dinlas

After a leisurely sail, we arrived at Porth Dinlas for the night. Although it was just one night’s stay, it gave us time to relax and enjoy each other’s company without feeling rushed or stressed about our journey. We enjoyed dinner onboard before settling in for the evening.

Our Patrons and Supporters

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all our Patreon family, coffee supporters, and PayPal contributors who make these adventures possible. We truly appreciate your support and enjoy creating content that brings joy and excitement to our followers.

In this weeks episode we leave the beautiful marina at Deganwy where we've been for a few weeks and point our bow towards South Wales with our sights set on the capital city of Cardiff and @penarthmarina8858 part of the @weareboatfolk2461 network.

Looking forward to getting there but also looking forward to the journey,
