Her friend, Heidi, lends a helping hand by loaning Melissa a sewing machine which aids in making the process easier. Along with that, she is gifted hot glue which is essential for cutting fabrics without unraveling them.Sewing Techniques and Challenges
Throughout this episode, Melissa teaches herself various sewing techniques including installing a zipper onto the top part of the stack pack. Despite her lack of prior experience with sewing zippers on heavy fabrics, she manages to make one for her project.Learning from Other Boats
To ensure that Melissa’s stack pack fits properly and isn’t saggy like many others seen on other boats, she takes some time to visit nearby boats in Deanway Marina. There, she observes how lazy Jacks come near the end of bags to ensure a snug fit for their sails.A Journey with Setbacks
Despite Melissa’s dedication and hard work on making these stack packs, she faced several setbacks along the way such as mic malfunctions and not fitting it properly during her initial attempts.Perseverance Pays Off
Yet through perseverance and hours of adjusting, tweaking, and refining, she managed to get them fitted just right. Though not perfect yet, they still serve the purpose and are satisfactory for her needs.The Final Outcome
In the end, with some help from her husband Andy, Melissa managed to install both the main and mizzen stack packs on Ocean Melody. Though initially disheartened due to various setbacks, she is ultimately proud of her accomplishments.Thanks for following our family on our sailing adventures.

Sailing Melody is the official YouTube channel for the Bennington Family and our sailing adventures. We are now well on our way to becoming a full time live-aboard family.
