#27 - We cut a hole in out boat!!! Sailing yacht refit

We cut a hole in our boat!
It’s freezing cold here and the weather is still terrible so we’re working undercover doing what we can until the spring arrives.
This week we disassemble the steering system to find it’s all jammed up with sand and won’t come apart in situ, so we have to cut out the floor of the cockpit to get the system out and home for renovation and rebuild.

We are Andy, Melissa and Jack, a sailing family based in North Wales, and for the past couple of years we have been looking for a bluewater sailing yacht to take us around the world.

Well we’ve finally found her. Our new sailing yacht is a John Teal designed 38ft Steel Pilothouse Cutter. She has been standing ashore for at least 15 years and now we’re embarking on the huge challenge of refitting her and doing her up ready to go sailing around the world.
