Sailing Magic Carpet Refit Update: Plans for Summer Splash

Aladino and Maya from Sailing Magic Carpet are back with an exciting update on their Cape George 36 refit project in Canada. The couple has been working tirelessly to bring their dream boat to life, and they’re now setting their sights on a summer splash.

In this episode, Aladino and Maya discuss their plans for the coming weeks and months, as well as their decision to spend two months sailing around the area post-refit before returning to finish off all the details. This approach is a mix of both camps they’ve seen in their comments – those who suggest just launching and figuring it out on the way, and those who think it’s best to complete the refit beforehand.

Summer Plans for Sailing Magic Carpet

The couple acknowledges that their refit timeline has been longer than anticipated. They’ve decided to focus on getting the boat as close as possible by installing essential components such as the engine, mast, and bow sprit during their summer splash. After this trial period, they will return to the boat yard to finish the refit and add all the extras, like a proper electrical system, plumbing, heater, navigation systems, fridge, lights, and more.

They also plan to test the old sails before possibly ordering new ones based on the findings. Another key item on their list is testing out a manual windlass instead of the electric one they had initially planned for. This summer trial will not only give them a sense of accomplishment but also allow them to enjoy life, have adventures, and break up the monotony of daily tasks.

Summer Splash Details

To prepare for their summer plans, Aladino and Maya must install the engine first. They will need to ensure that they have hull insurance before setting sail, which involves getting a surveyor to inspect the boat after installing the engine and ensuring it’s functional. The order of operations can be nerve-wracking, but the couple remains optimistic about their ability to successfully execute their plans with proper planning.

While working on their refit project is important, Aladino and Maya are also focused on enjoying the process and avoiding burnout. As they bring Sailing Magic Carpet closer to its maiden voyage, there’s no doubt that both excitement and love for their dream boat will only continue to grow.
