In 1 Week, We Have To Take The Shed Down...

In this episode, we are taking down our shed – yes, you heard it right! In exactly one week this shed is coming down. But I think we’re ready; let’s have a quick recap of the shed story in case you don’t know.

A few months ago, the yard came to us and said that they want to move our boat to maximize space in the yard. For this to happen, our shed would have to come down and that kind of sent us into a panic. We were trying to get as much done on the exterior as possible because it’s really hard to work on the boat without cover over it.

One month led into two months, led into three months almost four months and we never heard from the yard again. So we just left the shed up, figuring if they needed it down, they would contact us again – which they did! But at this point, we’re very ready. In fact, I think the shed is really holding us back more than helping us now. Soon, we get to lift in the engine with a crane, of course, and lift the mast so the shed’s going to have to go for that anyway – now’s the perfect time.

What We’re Up To This Week

This week we’ve got several things on our agenda. I’m going to start installing some tensioning, and also putting on more details onto the butterfly hatch. The hatch is really testing me. Also, I will be starting the installation of the new chain plates because once the shed is gone, we can also think about putting the mast up again.

Engine Room Overhaul

The engine room has seen a major overhaul. First thing we got rid of was the old engine which, by the way, was not complete nor functioning once we had a clean slate.

We decided to design a CV joint into the system and the brand is Aqua Drive. The crucial part in that configuration is you also have to fiberglass in a thrust bulkhead so that the entire thrust from the propeller is taken up by that bulkhead and then it pushes the boat and the engine instead, uh can bounce around freely on its vibration mounds.

Now that everything’s installed properly, I’m going to prime and paint before the engine gets lifted in. The butterfly hatch has also seen a lot of work. We’ve completely stripped the varnish and then we epoxied some seams, re-coated it with multiple coats of varnish, now putting on the final details – but wait! I actually forgot something important. This hatch is really testing me so I just remembered that I wanted to add little gutters before varnishing so I’ve already varnished now four coats.

Installing the Chain Plates

We have also put on more aesthetically beautiful pieces – some little pieces of boat jewelry to our hull. Here they are, our external chain plates and I’ve just dry-fitted them. I only have the hole for the top bolt right now, but it’s holding so far.

The Composting Toilet Experiment

We received an exciting shipment of a very necessary part but yeah, maybe not the most interesting to anybody else – there is a lot to do. Let’s get started! We also decided to upgrade our glass and chose safety glass so that in case one panel would break, it wouldn’t shatter all over the interior.

Add Stanions For Safety

Well, I wanted to get the toilet before proceeding in here but now we can actually very soon continue with the next step, which is determining at what height.

The Airhead, as some of you might recognize, we opted to go with this composting toilet. We’re going to try composting. Toilet! Obviously, we’re really intrigued by saving the space and all that jazz so let’s do it.

Thank You For Following Along

Huge, huge thank you as always for being here. We really couldn’t do this without you and we’re so appreciative that you’ve been following along through all of our ups and downs, hardships – whatever it is.

We are making it, and we’re currently in the home stretch now. Despite all these challenges, we’re actively moving forward and that’s exciting!
