Prepping for a Pacific Crossing with Sailing Machete

Sailing enthusiasts around the world have been captivated by the adventures of YouTube channel Sailing Machete. The couple, Jess and Daniel, recently took some time to discuss their latest endeavor – preparing for a Pacific Ocean crossing. If you’ve ever dreamed about embarking on an incredible sailing adventure, you won’t want to miss this informative post.

Back in St. Croix

The couple decided it was time to leave the beautiful island of St. Croix and start planning for their big journey across the Pacific Ocean. This move has left Jenna in charge of their beloved boat while Jess and Daniel fly back to the States. They understand that good holding is essential at their current location, so they are making sure that their anchor placement won’t be a concern when they return.

Leaving Crew Behind

The thought of leaving Jenna and the children in charge of their boat during this time may seem daunting to many. However, Jess and Daniel feel confident in their crew’s abilities to handle any potential issues while they’re away. They even managed to find a perfect spot for their boat before flying out, giving them peace of mind.

Researching Their Pacific Route

Daniel spends hours researching their Pacific route, studying various countries and considering which ones would allow them to bring Mickey, their beloved pet, along on this adventure. After much deliberation, they’ve decided that taking Mickey back home with them is best for the animal’s wellbeing.

Installing Boat Parts Before Departure

As part of their preparation, Jess and Daniel have been diligently installing new boat parts such as blocks for downwind sailing, water makers, inverters, and more. They even had a manual bilge pump on hand just in case any unforeseen issues arise while they are at sea.

Airlines’ Confusion Over Carry-Ons

The couple faced an amusing situation at the airport when flying back home with their carry-ons filled with boat parts. Airport security initially questioned whether one of the items was a bomb! Luckily, Jess and Daniel were able to clear up any confusion and successfully brought all of their essential gear with them.

Family Support System

To help prepare for this exciting journey, Jess and Daniel’s family have been incredibly supportive. They helped pack the boat and make sure that everything is in working order before departing on their voyage.

Final Preparations

In order to make sure they’re fully prepared for their Pacific crossing, Daniel has been diligently researching and stocking up on supplies such as medical equipment, hoses for auto pilot maintenance kits, electrical transfer switches, spare parts, and even books for entertainment. He’s also making sure that the boat itself is in top condition by checking things like the Honda outboard motor impellers.

The Journey Ahead

Sailing Machete is not only preparing themselves but also their loved ones who will be watching from back home as they embark on this epic journey. The couple believes that careful planning and preparation are key to ensuring a successful Pacific crossing. Tune in next time for more updates on this incredible adventure.

This week Daniel, Jess, and Mickey fly back home to South Carolina - but only one of them isn't coming back! Daniel has ordered so many boat parts and spares and had them delivered to his parents' house - now he has to get them back to St. Croix.
