As the Sailing Machete family sailed down to Grenada during episode 40, they found a slice of paradise. They were all set to dive into their boat projects since they knew they wouldn’t have much time on their hands while in Grenada. With Daniel working on fixing what’s broken and both parents focused on their tasks, the kids made the most out of their homeschooling Boat Friends, sailing, foil boarding, and swimming. Their daily routine became centered around completing necessary boat fixes.
During their stay, they made use of the sailing lessons offered at the Petite Calin Yacht Club, located near La Fair Blue. This location is a quick dingy ride from where they were anchored. The kids all had a fantastic time learning to sail Hobie Cat boats while their parents took care of essential boat repairs.
The Sailing Machete family had a great experience in Grenada, which felt like a fun summer camp surrounded by fellow cruisers. They were able to make friends with other cruising families they still keep in touch with today.
While on their Caribbean adventure, the Sailing Machete family had some trouble when their inverter unexpectedly died. This caused quite a bit of stress since they rely heavily on their power systems. Fortunately, with an email to a local Turbulance office in Grenada and an old 2,000-watt inverter that Daniel wired up, the family got their power issues sorted out.
The local IGA grocery store offered an excellent service to deliver groceries right to the family’s boat. They found this especially helpful for their daily needs while they focused on repairing and maintaining their sailboat.
The family did occasionally visit the local farmers market at Clark’s Court Marina every Wednesday morning. It could get quite crowded, and supplies were sometimes limited but they still managed to grab fresh produce and other necessary items.
While in Grenada, Daniel was hard at work welding up parts of the davit, while Jack tried his hand at making a bow. The family was determined to have their dingy projects completed before the arrival of Daniel’s parents in 10 days. This was quite an achievement considering all they had to do to prepare for the visit.
The family’s excitement reached a new level when their swim platform went missing. It took some searching but with help from the community and Facebook, they managed to track down and retrieve their swim platform.
To replace the dead inverter, the Sailing Machete family had to go through a few hurdles since the spare was different from the original model. Despite having everything they needed for their Quattro replacement inverter, they still had to create a new pigtail and wire it all up correctly.
The family faced their share of challenges, but they didn’t let anything get in the way of enjoying their time on the water. They had one particular sailing experience where a storm caused damage to one of their sails, which prompted Daniel to find a solution for replacing broken battens.
The kids continued to grow and thrive throughout their Grenada adventure. Jack’s first loose tooth became a fun highlight during this time, adding yet another memory for the Sailing Machete family.
In preparation for Daniel’s parents’ visit, the family moved their boat from W Burn Bay to St. George. They were excited to welcome them to Grenada and ensure everything was as perfect as it could be.
During their time in Grenada, the family was fortunate to experience a strong sense of community among fellow cruisers. These shared experiences and connections strengthened relationships with other sailing families, lasting long after they left Grenada.
The memories created in Grenada during this episode will be treasured for a lifetime by the Sailing Machete family. As they continue to travel the world on their boat, these adventures in Grenada served as just one of many stepping stones.
Even though they had to face and solve several challenges, the family didn’t let it bring them down. Instead, they turned their determination and creativity towards tackling every hurdle while enjoying Grenada’s beautiful island life and scenery. Their love for sailing, coupled with their incredible adventures in Grenada, created an unbreakable bond between all members of this adventurous sailing family.
The Sailing Machete family proved that a strong spirit and willpower could get them through any storm on the high seas. Whether fixing their boat or discovering new destinations, they made it known in Grenada that adventure was never too far away.
This week we have updates on our Victron Quattro inverter, our newly welded dinghy davits, and what life is like in Grenada for hurricane season. We go over grocery shopping and sailing lessons, and have a fun night at the Round Grenada Regatta awards ceremony.
