I’ve always loved solo sailing, Sailing alone on a Catamaran is a lot different from a monohull though, this I learnt.
I’m yet to decide if I’ll solo sail my Cat on longer passage though as the danger seems to be much higher.
I solo sailed my mono many thousands of miles, she spoke to me on passage. When the wind got up she heeled over more, when the sea state changed I knew it and woke up instantly. I sailed her without much though, just instinctively.
On my new Cat I have yet to feel this, maybe it will just take longer to recognise these feelings?
When the wind gets up she just goes faster and I dont even realise it. I can be doing 12kts and it doesn’t feel any different than 6kts. At night if a 40kt squall hits this would be very dangerous. On the plus side she’s very easily driven and I can hold a very small amount of sail at night and still do reasonable speeds.
Its just this lack of communication that I’m having difficulties with. Any tips?
Thanks for watching.

Cyclone Narelle, what actually happened?(Ep 316)

Cyclone Narelle hit the Northern Territory coast just south of Gove, where we were taking shelter deep up in the mangroves. Our spot turned out to be an excellent choice and we ended up enjoying a pretty good nights sleep and at no time felt in danger. The...

Darwin to Brisbane by road is roughly 3500km. We have 9 days to complete the trip in our Toyota Hilux, taking as many little detours as we can find along the way. There is a heat wave following us and temps during the days never dip below 43deg, with night...
