June 15, 2024 by Sailing Learning By Doing | Language: EN Play Time: 00:17:23 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

In this thrilling new episode of Sailing Learning by Doing, Vernon, Eli, and Mari take us on an unforgettable adventure as they explore the beautiful islands of Sulawesi in Indonesia. In their first month sailing in Sulawesi, they encountered numerous experiences that truly showcased the wonders of Indonesian culture and made them fall more in love with this country.
Sailing to Sulawesi
After showing viewers how they anchored in tight spots at the beautiful Mauna Island in Bhein Strait, Vernon, Eli and Mari then took their audience on a journey through various parts of Sulawesi. They managed to sail some miles while experiencing several different locations within Indonesia.
Finding Diesel
The trio encountered challenges early on during their time in Sulawesi. With limited fuel tanks aboard D Runner, Vernon had the task of finding diesel for their boat while sailing between Tabuan and Mauna.
Despite knowing Indonesian language, communication barriers still arose as Vernon felt like a ‘freaking alien’ among locals. With exhaustion from constant movement over a week, he ultimately returned to the boat with empty hands but vowed that they’d find a solution soon.
A Warm Welcome at Burung Island
After catching their breath and regaining energy, the crew stumbled upon a group of small islands in southern Sulawesi with no prior knowledge about it. They managed to successfully anchor in the area.
The Enchanting Glou Island
On their way to this destination, they enjoyed a wonderful day of sun and beautiful winds while sailing towards Montane Island called Glou. This idyllic stop became even more appealing when they experienced lovely mornings aboard D Runner.
A Village Visit
The group woke up to a breathtaking view of the island and decided to explore it further. Upon stepping foot on land, they were immediately greeted by villagers who warmly invited them into their homes.
An Immersive Cultural Experience
As more curious individuals from the village gathered, a whirlwind of socialization began. Villagers brought gifts such as special foods, drinks, and trinkets that they wanted to share with Vernon, Eli, and Mari.
Moving On
Despite being charmed by their hosts’ hospitality, the trio ultimately decided that too much attention was overwhelming. As parents of a young child who needed rest and space, they chose to leave after spending three days in Burung Island.
Discovering Peace in Solitude
The family eventually found peace by staying at a remote reef area, far away from the island. There they enjoyed their newfound silence and solitude after experiencing an intense period of socializing.
Exploring the Beauty of Indonesia
Vernon, Eli, and Mari expressed that while their experience in Sulawesi was more populated than expected, it didn’t deter them from fully immersing themselves in the unique culture and traditions of these islands.
Embracing Challenges
Although these experiences sometimes drained their energy, they acknowledged that these challenges were part of their adventure. The beauty and excitement of exploring Indonesia continue to motivate them on their journey.
