Boat Tour. Our BUDGET performance Catamaran in detail. PART 1. (ep 268)
August 10, 2024 by Sailing Learning By Doing | Language: EN Play Time: 00:22:06 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

Welcome aboard the Trade Runner! This is the first in a two-part series that will give you an unprecedented look at every aspect of this fantastic 39ft Crowther windspeed catamaran.
Trade Runner: A Brief Introduction
Trade Runner is not just any boat. She has been a part of our lives for over a year and a half, yet we have never showcased her properly in any video until now. This catamaran is the result of decades-long racing evolution, featuring both speed and practicality that is perfect for cruising.
The Front of the Boat
Upon closer inspection, you will notice that Trade Runner has no flat surfaces; instead, it boasts a smooth, rounded design to ensure any water or waves that enter quickly dissipate. It does make walking around somewhat tricky, but this is a small trade-off for her impressive performance.
The Rigging
One of the most notable features at the front is the rotating mast and screecher, a heavy-duty sail specifically designed for this type of catamaran. It’s strong enough to withstand wind speeds up to 30 knots.
The Anchor System
Our anchor system consists of 60m of chain and another 60m of road, ensuring we can anchor deeply when needed. The up and down switches for the anchor winch are located both on the bow and in the cockpit.
The Trampolines
Trade Runner features two trampolines at the front, providing excellent walking surfaces with high-quality material that is securely lashed on. These trampolines enhance our sailing experience and overall enjoyment of being on the water.
The Living Quarters
Inside Trade Runner, we’ve designed an open layout to maximize space for living and storage. Our water and fuel tanks are located in strategic areas to maintain balance, with all the heavy items concentrated in the center.
The Helm Position
Trade Runner features a unique two-Helm position setup, ideal for racing and sailing performance. We’ve invested in top-quality instruments from Raymarine to ensure precise navigation at all times.
The Cockpit
Our cockpit is designed for maximum comfort, with storage areas for fishing gear and a barbecue on the rear. It’s an ideal space for relaxing while enjoying time on the water.
Solar Panels & Wind Generator
We have installed two 180W solar panels and a wind generator to provide reliable power solutions. These components help keep our batteries charged even when off-grid.
The Next Episode
In the upcoming episode, we’ll take you through a tour of Trade Runner’s living spaces. We’ll explore how Marie and I have transformed this catamaran into our mobile home and share some of our sailing performance experiences with you.

Our floating home is a custom built Crowther Windspeed 39. We've had her over a year now and thought it high time to show her to you all.
Built in 1996 by Geoff Cruse, Trade Runner is a performance based design, very light, very wide and very simple. She goes like the clappers, sails in hardly any wind and is very stable and forgiving.
Let me know if there are any details I missed that youd want to know about.
This first episode is the outside, nest week we'll shiow you inside so stay tuned for that one.
Enjoy.
