The time has come for Sailing Yacht Joco to make their return journey to the idyllic island of Bequia, marking a significant milestone in their remarkable nautical adventures. The intrepid crew had been exploring the beautiful shores of Martinique for nearly a month, fully embracing the enchanting essence of Caribbean waters. As they embark on this new leg of their voyage, let us delve into their plans and experiences leading up to this momentous occasion.
After an almost month-long sojourn in Martinique, Sailing Joco had initially envisioned a week-and-a-half stay on the next island of their itinerary. However, due to favorable weather conditions, their stint in Martinique got extended significantly. As fate would have it, a perfect window of optimal sailing conditions finally opened up, paving the way for the crew’s long-awaited return trip back to Bequia.
The initial plan was to sail to Bequia with just the sails up. However, a minor issue arose when their engine failed to start one morning during the voyage – an event they hadn’t encountered in quite some time. Despite the temporary setback, Jeff had to manually stimulate the solenoid until the engine finally responded. This rare incident made the crew hopeful that come their arrival near these island shores, the engine would spring back to life without any further intervention.
In the midst of their journey, Sailing Joco encountered a comical yet fascinating scene in St. Lucia where they witnessed numerous boobies diving for fish with extraordinary precision and speed. The crew couldn’t help but be captivated by these graceful marine creatures, adding a touch of humor and delight to an otherwise serene passage.
Upon their arrival back in Bequia, Sailing Joco’s crew was greeted with the familiar sight of their beloved island. The sense of nostalgia was palpable as they observed the Peton Island loom above a somewhat disheveled dinghy. As for whether or not they decided to stop by St. Lucia, the decision remained uncertain; the factors that influenced it included safety concerns and the absence of another sailing buddy.
The journey was further accentuated by an intriguing culinary experience aboard Sailing Joco. The crew took advantage of the abundant natural light and, in true spirit of redundancy and preparedness, relied on an additional solar-powered lamp for cooking up a delectable three-course meal under moonlight. However, unforeseen circumstances arose when they realized their propane gas tank was empty right in the middle of rice-cooking.
In preparation for leaving Bequia again and moving further south to Granada, Sailing Joco had to refill their propane gas tank before departure. Interestingly enough, just a few hours later while cooking dinner, the remaining propane supply dwindled unexpectedly – talk about impressive timing!
Ahead lay another exciting chapter as they planned to sail all the way down to Grenada, a territory that had remained unexplored on their previous travels. The voyage from Bequia would be a lengthy one and was set to last about three weeks. Along the way, they hoped to discover some picturesque and lesser-known islands nearby which they were advised could be incredible gems in disguise.
In summary, Sailing Yacht Joco’s return trip back to Bequia marked the conclusion of their extended stay in Martinique. Their journey showcased not only breathtaking vistas but also amusing incidents, including encounters with marine creatures and minor technical hitches that the resourceful crew skillfully addressed. With each leg of their adventure brimming with promise, there is no doubt that more thrilling escapades await as they set sail for Grenada and beyond.
After dropping anchor at Tyrell Bay in Grenada, Sailing Joco planned to check into customs. Along the way, they aimed to explore smaller islands nearby that were highly recommended by fellow sailors. The crew was looking forward to these new discoveries and cherished interactions with other sailing enthusiasts.
