KICKED OUT OF OUR SPECIAL SPOT! - Ep 193

We've sailed up to the Exuma Cays in the Bahamas where we anchor down in a special spot. We make a discovery onshore before we have to leave the anchorage unexpectedly. We sail north up the island chain before anchoring down in Rudder Cut Cay to dive on an underwater sculpture before making our way to Blackpoint in search for the best coconut bread in the Bahamas!

Unraveling Crab Key Cove – A Special Spot in Sail and Gypsy’s Journey

After a long voyage, Sail and Gypsy finally reached the Exuma Keys in the Bahamas, a place they hold dear to their hearts. It was here at Crab Key Cove that they made significant memories by building their famous swing on the beach. This special spot has remained a point of fascination for their fans, with remnants of it appearing over the years.

An Unexpected Visit from Park Warden

On arrival, the couple received a visit from a park warden who informed them that they couldn’t anchor at Crab Key Cove anymore. This news came as quite a shock since three years ago, during a weather event, Sail and Gypsy sought protection in this very bay amidst a fleet of boats, with no such objections.

Exploring the Abandoned Resort

Curiosity piqued by their recent experience at Crab Key Cove, Sail and Gypsy ventured to explore an abandoned resort nearby. Despite its dilapidated state upon first visit 3 years ago, there seemed to be new development occurring now.

Transitioning to a New Anchorage

Accepting the park warden’s instructions gracefully, Sail and Gypsy looked for a new spot to anchor their vessel. Though reluctantly leaving behind their special place, they were on the lookout for alternative areas where they could comfortably stay without disturbing any protected spots.

The Hidden Treasure of Crab Key Cove

As they searched for a new anchorage, the couple found an interesting sculpture submerged in water – a Steinway baby grand piano entwined with a life-size mermaid. This unique artwork added charm and allure to the surroundings of their temporary residence.

The Magic of Beaches

The tranquility and beauty of Crab Key Cove weren’t limited only to its waters; the beach here offered incredible experiences. Sail and Gypsy witnessed various birds including eagles, found interesting shells, and even spotted a potential jellyfish near their anchorage.

The Quest for Coconut Bread

Their stay in Crab Key Cove also led them on an adventure to find the famous coconut bread from L’s Cafe. Guided by locals, they discovered a nearby house run by Mrs. Lorraine who baked this delicious treat. After tasting it themselves, Sail and Gypsy were certainly not disappointed.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

Despite having to leave their beloved Crab Key Cove behind for respect of local rules and conservation efforts, Sail and Gypsy were able to find beauty in other aspects of this part of the world. They continued their journey, ensuring that they adhered to all guidelines while enjoying every moment of their adventure.

Don’t forget to hit that subscribe button so you don’t miss out on the anchorages getting better as they explore further north in the Exuma Keys, into shallower waters where Travis takes on a significant task: giving his first haircut since moving aboard. Good luck finding a barber in international waters! Enjoy the new episode coming up next week.
