HITTING RESET IN A NEW COUNTRY: Where we are & the status of Jibsea - Ep 201

Welcome back to Sailing Gypsy, where we follow Travis and Sam on their exciting sailing adventures around the world. In this episode, they share an incredible update about their recent journey: hitting the reset button by purchasing a new sailboat in Panama!

Discovering the Perfect Sailboat

After carefully considering their options and doing their research, Travis and Sam found the perfect sailboat for their future cruising plans. This boat is a significant upgrade from Gypsy, their previous vessel, which they’ve been sailing for three years. The couple knew everything about Gypsy and had made countless upgrades to make her their perfect home on the water.

However, with this new sailboat comes a sense of starting from ground zero again, especially when it comes to building trust in the systems and capabilities of their new vessel. Travis admits that this feeling of uncertainty is accompanied by a sense of excitement as they begin this next chapter of their sailing journey.

The Decision to Buy

Purchasing another boat was definitely out of left field, but the couple knew that this sailboat would be perfect for their future plans. Sam admits that she got a sense of “it just calls to you” when they first discovered the sailboat online. As Travis constantly looked at boats for sale and fell in love with different layouts and interiors, he eventually felt it was time to investigate further.

The couple flew down to Florida after listing their beloved Gypsy up for sale. They were filled with nerves but also excitement as they met the broker and inspected the new sailboat more closely. Travis swears that sometimes a boat will just call to him and this was one of those times.

Leaving Gypsy Behind

In order for the purchase to move forward, Travis had never left Gypsy alone before and Sam had only done so once. With a lot of cautionary steps taken and their friend Leo looking after Gypsy while they were gone, the couple felt prepared to leave their trusted vessel behind for a short period of time.

Sleeping on land again was strange for Travis, who admitted it was different from his four years on Gypsy. As much as leaving Gypsy behind felt crazy and nerve-wracking, the excitement and potential for a new adventure with their dream sailboat was too hard to ignore.

A New Chapter Begins

With the stars aligning in perfect order, Travis and Sam purchased their new boat in Florida and began working quickly to get Gypsy listed for sale. They had to act fast, but their hearts were full of hope and excitement about what lay ahead.

In this new chapter, Travis and Sam plan on building confidence with their new sailboat by sailing her in Panama first before taking her offshore. The couple knows there will be challenges along the way as they adjust to this new vessel, but they remain optimistic about where life will take them next.
