BIG FAIL, AMATEURS! Sailing to the NARROWEST PLACE ON EARTH- Ep 196
June 23, 2024 by Sailing Jibsea | Language: EN Play Time: 00:23:36 | SAILING YOUTUBERS
Sailing to one of the most extraordinary destinations on Earth – the narrowest place on Earth known as the Glass Window Bridge in Alder, Bahamas.
Previous Episode Recap
In the previous episode, we set sail from the beautiful Zuma Keys in the Bahamas, heading to an untouched island we’ve never been to before. This island, Alra, is home to 11,000 people and offers a stark contrast to the remote islands we usually explore. It’s a great stop for cruisers to find trash disposal, fuel, groceries, and plenty of natural beauty, including coconut trees.
Exploring Alder
Alder is home to the famous Glass Window Bridge, which boasts a dramatic contrast between the deep blue Atlantic Ocean and the calm turquoise waters of the Great Bahama Bank. With only 30 feet of land separating these two bodies of water, it’s no wonder this destination has gained notoriety as one of the narrowest places on Earth.
The Queen’s Baths
Just a short distance away from the Glass Window Bridge are the stunning natural rock pools known as the Queen’s Baths. These shallow, warm baths are formed by ocean waves crashing over the rocky shoreline during low tide.
Discovering Spanish Wells
A little further up the island lies Spanish Wells, an idyllic spot known for its colorful houses and golf cart rentals. This charming village offers a perfect chance to explore the island while experiencing local flavors.
Hunting for Wild Fruit
In search of wild-growing fruit, such as bananas, limes, tomatoes, and papayas, we ventured off the beaten path. With a little patience and some help from friendly locals, we found what we were looking for and added to our provisions.
Processing Coconuts
No adventure is complete without a coconut processing session! We found some ripe coconuts and attempted to extract their meat and water. However, it seemed that the coconuts from Alder had less water and meat than we were hoping for.
Unique Sand Discoveries
In a delightful twist, we discovered an unusual phenomenon of trapped air bubbles within the sand. As we swished our feet through it, the bubbles would rise to the surface – a fascinating sight indeed!
Moving Forward
As our time in Alder comes to an end, we reflect on the incredible experiences we’ve had and marvel at nature’s beauty. The Glass Window Bridge, Queen’s Baths, and charming Spanish Wells are just a few of the remarkable attractions that make this destination truly unique.
As we continue to sail around the beautiful Bahamas, it is clear that Alder has left its mark on our hearts. With memories filled with awe-inspiring views, unique experiences, and friendly encounters with locals, there’s no doubt this trip will forever remain a cherished adventure for us.
Don’t Miss This!
If you’re considering visiting Alder or the Bahamas in general, make sure not to miss out on exploring Glass Window Bridge, the Queen’s Baths, Spanish Wells, and the surrounding natural wonders. These experiences are unique and unforgettable – a must-visit for any sailor or adventure enthusiast.
To learn more about our journey to Alder and other destinations, make sure to follow along with our adventures. Stay tuned as we share further insights into our experiences in this captivating region!
Join us as explore the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas where cruisers can fuel up, find trash disposal and restock on groceries. We check out the Cathedral Caves and Boiling Hole before visiting famous destinations like the Glass Window Bridge and Queens Bath. We sail along the west coast of the island before making our way up to Spanish Wells to forage for fruit before sailing to Egg Island to to check out a set of popular set of swings on a sandbar.
