What’s the first step in fixing a keel after running aground? Our keel is cracked, which is commonly referred to as a Catalina smile. When we ran aground, it goes worse. So, time for the diy project masters to get it done.

Catalina had a design flaw in the late seventies and eighties, they put wood in the keel stub. The results lead to a smile like feature at the front of the keel. With our running aground, it’s more like the joker now. At this point we are diy project masters so time to grind away at the keel, and check for any damage that may have been done by wrecking our electric sailboat.
