Welcome back to another week of Sailing Good, Bad, and Ugly! This episode, we’re diving into a fun and challenging project – electrifying our driveway gate with solar power. If you haven’t seen the previous episodes, make sure to check them out for context and catch up on our progress so far.
In this week’s episode, we continue working on finishing the fence on our 8-acre off-grid property. After successfully sourcing the wood and completing that task, we’re ready to move on to something more exciting – installing the electric gate.
After our trip to San Juan, we were able to secure the wood we needed to finish our fence. We carefully measured and cut each plank to ensure a precise fit with the angled top to match the slope of our land. The key was using a guide for accuracy in cutting the wooden planks.
Once we had completed the fence, it was time to shift our focus to the electric gate. This involved pre-assembling both of the extension arms and drilling holes into the beautiful wall that our gate is attached to. We made sure everything was set up correctly before proceeding.
We wanted to make this electric gate truly unique and self-sufficient by incorporating solar power. We acquired two 12-volt batteries, a solar setup, and the necessary arms and kit from Amazon. The process involved connecting all the wires according to detailed instructions (including some complex trigonometry calculations) and testing our work by attempting to open and close the gate using the remote control.
As we faced challenges throughout this project, such as accidentally spilling battery acid on Matt, we demonstrated the importance of perseverance. We made some adjustments to our gate – including fine-tuning its operation and making sure it closes properly – which were essential in achieving a perfect finish.
In conclusion, this week’s episode showcased the final steps of building an electric gate with solar power on our off-grid property. The project required problem-solving skills and careful attention to detail throughout each stage of construction and installation.
With this task completed, we are now one step closer to finishing our property improvements. Up next is finishing the chain link on the side and adding some decorations and lighting for beautification purposes. We can’t wait to see what other exciting projects lie ahead!
Make sure you’re subscribed and tuned in for the next episode of Sailing Good, Bad, and Ugly. In our upcoming episodes, we’ll continue working on making our property as self-sustaining and efficient as possible. If Tyra Banks is looking to build an off-grid home, tune in because that’s going to be next week’s topic!
Thanks for joining us this week, see you next time! Stay safe out there.
