Sailing Menorca with Sailing Frida
Welcome to the latest episode of Sailing Frida, where we take you on an exhilarating journey through the island of Menorca. This time, join us as we sail and explore this captivating destination.Everything Brought from Local FarmDuring our time in Menorca, we made sure to immerse ourselves in the local culture. We visited a farm store where everything we bought was produced on-site by the family that runs it. The farm provided us with delicious, fresh local cheese, sausages, and eggs, showcasing the rich agricultural heritage of the island. The Beauty of Menorca’s Natural ParksDetermined to see more of Menorca’s natural beauty, we embarked on an excursion north towards a protected natural park. Following the marked trails and taking in breathtaking views along the way, we encountered a wealth of wildlife within this diverse ecosystem. The Coastal Villages of MenorcaOur exploration of Menorca took us to charming coastal villages where we indulged in delicious local cuisine. In one small village, I stumbled upon a hidden gem—a coffee shop that offered an energy boost before continuing our adventures.Sailing Back to MahonOur journey in Menorca culminated with a return sail back to the capital city of Mahon. This was a particularly memorable trip, as we managed to catch a large tuna fish while out on the water—a first for both Anders and myself.Finding Safe AnchorageTo ensure our safety upon arrival in Mahon, we relied on local recommendations to find a secure anchorage spot. After consulting various sources, we decided on an anchorage near the Columbus Monument lighthouse and promptly secured our boat.Tasty Tuna for DinnerThe tuna fish we caught proved to be a delightful treat for dinner. Anders skillfully cleaned and prepared the catch, resulting in a mouthwatering feast. It was certainly one of our most memorable meals on this Menorca adventure. The Perfect End to an Incredible JourneyThe conclusion to our week-long stay in Menorca brought a range of experiences, from challenging sailing conditions and wildlife encounters to exploring the island’s captivating history and vibrant local life. We highly recommend Menorca for anyone seeking an unforgettable sailing destination.Ready for More Adventures? Finally we managed to catch a Tuna with a little googling we think it was a long fin Tuna. But before we get to that we make a walk in a nature reserve on Menorca. Finally the Mistral give in and we get a weather window to sail back to Mallorca and on the way we catch our first fish and it´s a beautiful tuna that really gave Anders a fight.
We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life.
Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans.
Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019
