The worst place to run aground | Ep138
The Cuban coastguard doesn’t have a boat. One sailor we spoke to here was told that if he wanted his boat pulled off the rocks they would have to hire a boat from Jamaica. So, this is not the place to find yourself hard aground!
Added to that, we can ‘t get spares here. When we ran aground the hydraulics took that moment to blow a pipe so we have no bow thruster nor windlass to help. Two things that would have been handy to extract us from the bar we are firmly beached on.
We try various ways of extracting ourselves, including kedging off, using our new electric eWincher.
We really are on our own as we haven’t seen another boat in a week. Cuba is an amazing place! Come here but come prepared.

Sailing Fair Isle
We have sold our house in the UK and moved aboard our boat. She is a classic cutter rigged 48 foot Hans Christian; a very strong blue water boat more than capable of sailing around the world. Just hope we are! We are professional documentary filmmakers working for the BBC and many other TV stations around the world. Broadcasters aren't interested in commissioning sailing programs these days so we are launching our channel online. Sailing Fair Isle is aiming to be more than just a vlog showing our travels. It will be a travel log, but also a documentary style show with proper content and broadcast technical standards. That's the plan anyway. Lets see how it goes.
