How to get into sailing : Part 1 - Chartering in the British Virgin Islands

We often get asked about how to get into sailing. How to gain qualifications, experience and the confidence to go cruising as the captain of your own boat. As a result, this year, we are going to have a series of special videos, along with our regular episodes, on how to get into sailing.
I actually introduced Judy to sailing in the Caribbean many years ago. We flipped the hobie cat in a squall and Judy had to be brought back to the boat by a rib from a superyacht after being blown away. But, hey, it was warm water and there were nice fishies to see, no harm done!
We’ve partnered with Sunsail because they have several sailing schools in nice warm places where we thought it might be possible to and learn to sail without too much of a challenge and hopefully without putting anyone off.
We will be going to the Sunsail centre in Croatia in April and there will be an exciting opportunity for two of our Patrons to come to and have a free weeks instruction on a Sunsail yacht.
We will be posting all the details on our Patron page, and in later episodes, so do keep an eye out for how you can be in the draw to come along.
Before all of that, though, since we have Fair Isle out of the water at the moment, Sunsail asked if we would like to check out their charters in the BVIs. They didn’t have to ask twice! Judy and I had sailed together in a regatta there about 30 years ago and loved it so we thought this would be a great opportunity to see if a Sunsail charter there might be suitable for a novice sailor trying to get more experience and get into the cruising life.
We took some friends along too, so this film will hopefully give you an idea of what to expect if you book yourselves on a holiday with friends on a charter boat.

Sailing Fair Isle
We have sold our house in the UK and moved aboard our boat. She is a classic cutter rigged 48 foot Hans Christian; a very strong blue water boat more than capable of sailing around the world. Just hope we are! We are professional documentary filmmakers working for the BBC and many other TV stations around the world. Broadcasters aren't interested in commissioning sailing programs these days so we are launching our channel online. Sailing Fair Isle is aiming to be more than just a vlog showing our travels. It will be a travel log, but also a documentary style show with proper content and broadcast technical standards. That's the plan anyway. Lets see how it goes.
