How bad can things get just before you set sail? | Ep87

What is it with boats? We were hoping to have a restful week saying goodbye to the amazing friends we’ve made here in Montenegro but instead we had to make a last minute dash to Serbia to mend a broken pump. Luckily we did manage to have some lovely evenings saying farewell but I’m not entirely sure it was a good idea to stay up quite so late and drink quite so much with John and Karon on their boat on our last night before we set sail for Malta! But it was a lovely evening! Thank you everyone for your joy, sharing of boat stories and friendship. See you out there. We are heading for Malta.

We have just sailed across the Adriatic using the Orca Core as our navigation system and we’re very impressed with it. It was great for us to have a really excellent AIS overlay on screen on our primary navigation screen (an ipad) along with things like remote autohelm as well, all really handy for the overnight sail we have just made to Italy.
So if you’re interested do check out Orca’s website here… https://getorca.com?via=steve
If you purchase anything through this link we earn a small commision too so you’ll be helping us make these films. Thank you!

P.S. We definitely want to try Orca’s tablet now we know how well the core works, so watch out for the full tech video on the Orca system coming up.

Interview with Barry ‘the old sea dog’ He’s about to finish his circumnavigation!
When we arrived in Horta a few weeks ago we were met at the dock by our friend Barry 'the old sea dog'. This was a surprise because although we knew he was a bit behind with his videos (he's in South Africa in his current videos) but we didn't know quite h...

Building a J-Pole AIS Antenna
I had been meaning to build a J-Pole Antenna for oue AIS for years. I had heard they perform very well and do away with the complexity of having a splitter in line which can compromise the VHF and the AIS if things go wrong. Well of course with the constan...

Is Bermuda better than the Bahamas for cruising? Ep 147
Many people just use Bermuda as a quick staging post on a West East Atlantic crossing. We think that is a massive mistake as Bermuda is one of our favourite places. Now that The Bahamas have hiked their cruising costs to thousands of pounds per vessel, Ber...

What’s it like sailing 800 miles offshore? | Ep146
The first leg of an Atlantic crossing is often the most tricky. Coming West the trade winds from the Canaries to the Caribbean are pretty reliable but getting down the the Canaries from Portugal can be a challenge. It was for us as you can see in Ep104 whe...
