Five really useful things to have on your boat

Here’s some info on the items in the video in the order we showed them:

Blu3: This Nomad version of Blu3’s hooker system takes over from it’s smaller brother the Nemo, which had a 10ft hose. The Nomad can take you down to 30 feet and has a much bigger battery so you can stay down for longer..
For us this is a much better solution than the small dive tank we had previously. Of course if you are a serious diver and want a BCD then you will want a full dive kit, but for those of us that just want an easy cheap and convenient way of getting down, this is by far the best option we’ve found.

Fendertex: These fenders were developed for the super yacht industry and are top quality. That does mean they are o lot more expensive than your average fender, but they are a lot better in many ways too. Which particular attribute makes them worth the money for you might vary, for us the main thing is the ability to store the fenders for the whole boat in a small bag in the sail locker that is the game changer. Previously we had them swinging off the back of the pushpit and they were just a pain in the backside. Always getting in the way of the boarding ladder, fishing and just generally looking scrappy. The second major advantage for us is their weight. They are just super light and Judy used to struggle to man handle the fenders down the side deck while at sea heading into port, these ones are so much easier. And if you’re worried how they work in port when the wind really gets up and they might get blown away from the side never fear there is a way around this. You just put a bit of water in the bottom to keep them weighted down. We love these fenders and are getting some covers with our logo stitched in the side too, so look out for that in a future episode!

Hose Clamps: I know hose clamps aren’t something at the top of most peoples radars when it comes to must have items! We didn’t go looking for them, in fact we came across PYI’s hose clamps and the Fendertex fenders while buying some grease for our Max Prop at their stand in Annapolis. It turns out PYI not only are the suppliers for Maxprop (hands down the best prop you can get) but many other great things too, so we came away from their stand with more than we bargained for!
I’m sure there are other great hose clamps out there, but these are the best i’ve seen. 316L Stainless steel and properly designed to do the job for decades. I’m very glad I’m taking a good look at our hose clamps now and replacing any suspect ones with these great clamps.

Doogee V31GT phone: If you want an rugged phone that has some cool camera options then this is probable the best out there. It is a bit brick like but if you want roughty-tufty rather than prim and proper then that wont worry you! I will report back on that infra red mode which looks very interesting

Comfort seat: We’ve been using these seats for years since we got some from our friends on a catamaran who had bought too many. We started with the standard small ‘marine line’ chairs which are excellent in so many situations, but then got hooked on the comfort of their lounge chairs when we got one in Vence 3 years ago. It’s so great to have another one now so we don’t have to take turns!

P.S.
We didn’t show any EcoFlow units in this video but if you watch our channel you’ll know we love their ‘solar generator’ units as well as their air conditioner, generator etc. I’ve had several emails from then since Xmas saying they have some big sales on at the moment (28th -29th Dec up to 52% off) if you’re interested in any of their stuff then follow this link… https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1537905&u=2733694&m=97298&urllink=&afftrack=

Building a J-Pole AIS Antenna
I had been meaning to build a J-Pole Antenna for oue AIS for years. I had heard they perform very well and do away with the complexity of having a splitter in line which can compromise the VHF and the AIS if things go wrong. Well of course with the constan...

Is Bermuda better than the Bahamas for cruising? Ep 147
Many people just use Bermuda as a quick staging post on a West East Atlantic crossing. We think that is a massive mistake as Bermuda is one of our favourite places. Now that The Bahamas have hiked their cruising costs to thousands of pounds per vessel, Ber...

What’s it like sailing 800 miles offshore? | Ep146
The first leg of an Atlantic crossing is often the most tricky. Coming West the trade winds from the Canaries to the Caribbean are pretty reliable but getting down the the Canaries from Portugal can be a challenge. It was for us as you can see in Ep104 whe...
