Caribbean Champagne Sailing: An Unforgettable Journey

< !—-[If you enjoy the thrill of sailing in the Caribbean, where there is always wind and perfect sailing conditions—][you will love this episode where the Fair Isle family sets sail from Grenada, stopping at the Windward Islands for a truly incredible experience. ## Heading to St. Lucia Their journey began by sailing to St. Lucia where they found a lovely little anchorage to spend some time and rest before moving on. The perfect location for exploring and experiencing what this Caribbean paradise has to offer. ## Rendezvous with the Island They stopped at Rond Island, one of their original destinations, but due to an exclusion zone because of active volcanoes in the area, they had to change plans. But that only made it more interesting, as they were determined to explore Tobago C and other islands. ## Exploring by Land and Sea The adventurers also ventured onto land where they experienced a stunning sunset at their evening anchorages while observing birds enjoying their feed. Their mornings were filled with excitement, particularly in the area of marine projects aboard their boat. ## Anchor Troubles During this episode, they faced challenges such as retrieving their stern anchor that was deeply buried and getting their bow anchor unstuck from a tangled mess. It took some effort and time but they managed to resolve all issues successfully. ## Diving into Paradise One of the high points of their journey was snorkeling in Chattam Bay, where Judy reported the stunning clarity of water. Their friends recommended it for great diving, which indeed turned out to be one of their memorable experiences. ## Improving Boat Amenities and Sailing Gear Throughout their journey, they were always on a lookout for ways to improve onboard amenities. They created useful DIY projects such as making Dacron loops for the boat's rigging and reefing line. These easy-to-follow tutorials have been shared online and prove helpful to many sailors. ## The Vegetable Dilemma The travelers faced a curious lack of fresh vegetables during their travels in some areas, with supplies having to be imported from elsewhere. This highlighted that setting up a vegetable allotment or farming could prove a lucrative business in these Caribbean islands, making life easier for locals and visitors alike. ## Preparing for the Next Journey With hurricane season approaching, the Fair Isle family is getting ready to leave Grenada again until they can safely return. Their next adventure awaits them as they revisit places like Tobago C and spend more time exploring new spots with Milly on board. This promises to be an exciting journey! We are starting to get a lot of people wanting us to compare the Caribbean with the Mediterranean. Well it's too early for us to give a fair comparison at the moment and it's quite a complex question which will need a dedicated video.
One thing's for sure though, the Caribbean has a wonderful reliable sailing breeze. I don't think we've had a day since we've been here that it hasn't blown 15-25 knots from the East. There's certainly some sporty sailing to be had and when it's this warm who cares about getting some sea spray in your hair?
In this episode we sail from Grenada to St Lucia with some wonderful stops in Bequia, Carriacou and Union Island and as ever there are multiple boat jobs to do.
Dyneema loops:
I started testing these loops last year after watching some videos from HowNot2 ( this is a good one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhIPeJNWtxE ) and them saying the Brummel lock adds nothing to the strength. It's a site aimed at climbers but there's some good info for us yachties.
