Exploring the British Virgin Islands: A Sailing Adventure

Join Dave and Patricia as they set sail for an unforgettable adventure in the breathtaking British Virgin Islands. In this episode, they share their experiences from Tortola to Peter Island, offering valuable insights into provisioning, boat handling, and island hopping.

Sailing the XO 440

In April of 2021, Dave and Patricia made a bold move by selling their house and investing in a brand new XO 440. Since then, they have been tirelessly outfitting and upgrading their boat to ensure it’s well-equipped for cruising life. Prior to setting sail, the couple honed their sailing skills on the Texas coast.

Provisioning in Road Town, Tortola

To kick off their BVI adventure, Dave and Patricia arrived in Road Town, Tortola a day early to provision for their trip. Staying at an Airbnb allowed them ample time to stock up on essential groceries before setting sail.

The couple found themselves surprised by the limited options and steep prices at the local grocery store. Their $35 worth of groceries proved insufficient, leading them to realize they would need to become skilled anglers to make their provisions last throughout the trip. With a lighthearted outlook, they embraced the challenge.

Exploring Pusser’s Pub

A visit to Pusser’s Pub offered Dave and Patricia not only a delicious Painkiller but also a chance to experience dockside seating with stunning views of the bay. The pub’s Painkiller, served in a real straw and freshly squeezed, proved superior to their previous attempt.

Setting Sail from Tortola to Peter Island

Moving aboard their XO 440, Dave took the helm and expertly maneuvered through the waters from Tortola to Peter Island. Trish relaxed on deck, basking in the glorious sunshine. This was their first attempt at buoy retrieval, but with determination, they successfully managed each challenge that arose.

Fishing and Challenges

Despite facing hurdles such as limited provisions and heavy buoys, Dave and Patricia remained positive and embraced their adventure. With the goal of becoming adept anglers to supplement their meals, they set out on the open water with optimism.
