Sailing to Jost Van Dyke
In April 2021, Patricia and Dave took delivery of their brand new Jano 440. Since then, they have been busy outfitting and upgrading the boat with everything necessary for cruising lifestyle, all while learning to sail on the Texas coast.Having completed the preparation phase, Patricia and Dave decided to sail down to Jost Van Dyke. Initially facing a hectic arrival at The Bitter End due to a crowded marina, they eagerly prepared for their departure. As the crew settled into an enjoyable morning with coffee while waiting for workers to arrive, they anticipated a beautiful day ahead for sailing.
The Bitter End Experience
Upon reaching The Bitter End, the couple had to prioritize navigation over filming, as they maneuvered through the narrow marina. The experienced dockhands efficiently helped them disembark from the slip, with Patricia and Dave capturing a glimpse of their vast mooring field. They couldn’t film the entire docking process due to limited visibility but managed to obtain essential footage.Unboxing Surprises
Patricia and Dave reveled in the delights provided by The Bitter End, as they savored a scrumptious breakfast of spinach and pepper cheese omelette accompanied by grits, a fruit cup, and the friendly service of an attentive server. Following their morning meal, they shared the excitement of winning a raffle that granted them an extra-large H&H dry bag. Inside were two Jano beach towels and an additional Lucy Light to add to their growing collection for enhanced illumination in their cockpit.Sailing Adventure
As they set sail, the couple’s charter boat did not initially include a downwind sail. Patricia and Dave took turns adjusting their sail configurations multiple times during the journey to achieve optimal performance using the manual winch. The experience tested both their determination and strength, with Patricia even gaining a workout as she trimmed the sails effectively.Navigating Jost Van Dyke
After an eight-hour journey, they successfully reached their destination. Patricia and Dave needed to locate the mooring ball they had reserved in Great Harbor amidst a few others that were challenging to read in low light. Their persistence paid off when they discovered that the seventh one down was theirs.Foxy’s Call
With the boat securely tied up, Patricia and Dave ventured into Foxy for dinner, where they reunited with their friends John and Shannon from Charisma. Following a refreshing round of painkillers, the group enjoyed an evening stroll along Jost Van Dyke’s pristine beach.Island Exploration
The enchanting island life captured Patricia and Dave’s hearts. Despite being captivated by the swings, they resisted long enough to explore local attractions before retiring for dinner at Rhumba and Blues. Conclusion
Patricia and Dave had a memorable adventure on their brand new Jano 440, from navigating marinas and participating in local customs to uncovering breathtaking views of Jost Van Dyke’s landscape. Their journey exemplifies the essence of sailing exploration, allowing them to bond with friends while honing their skills as cruising enthusiasts.Next Adventure
