Sailing to Virgin Gorda: Janus Rendezvous Excitement

The sun rises over Peter Island as Patricia and Dave embark on their first full day of the Janus Rendezvous, an event that promises sailing, socializing, and a lot of fun. With 13 boats and 50 participants, they head for Virgin Gorda in anticipation of an unforgettable journey.

Racing Along at a Gentle Pace

The race is on, or rather, the rally begins as they set sail from Peter Island towards Virgin Gorda. However, Mother Nature has different plans, providing just enough wind for their sails to be full and yet not overwhelming. The starting point is filled with excitement and hope; even at 3.4 knots of wind, they are ready to make it count.

Competing in the Rally

The gentle sail turns into a competitive event as other boats join them on the water, making it a game of strategy and skill. Despite the light winds, each boat tries to make the most out of the situation. After hours of sailing, they approach the finish line, ready to reflect on their race. While not the fastest, Patricia and Dave are content with their experience and the close calls they had while navigating through the crowded mooring field at The Bitter End.

A Day Full of New Experiences

The Janus Rendezvous doesn’t end with racing; it’s also about sharing and learning. Each boat comes equipped with a ‘swag bag,’ containing items such as hats, shirts, LED lights, koozies, a waterproof speaker, and dry bags. This communal feeling is further emphasized during the docktail party where each boat shares their favorite cocktail, making for a lively and colorful mix of drinks.

The competition heats up as everyone votes on the best-tasting and most uniquely presented drink. ‘Serotonin,’ a fruity concoction, garners many supporters. But the real star is ‘The Poop in a Drink’ (living on a boat), thanks to its unique presentation that included candy and an amusing backstory.

A Taste of Local Flavor

As the night falls, they move onto the Reef Sampler, where they enjoy pizza. The history of the reef sampler adds another layer to their experience – it was once a boat involved in building The Bitter End in the 70s but later sank during Hurricane Irma before being resurrected for its current use.

After a memorable night on the dock with good food and even better company, Patricia and Dave look forward to exploring more of Virgin Gorda’s wonders. As they leave the Janus Rendezvous, their minds are full of new friends, experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.

David and Patricia wake up in the calm mooring field of Peter Island for their first full day of the Jeanneau 2024 Rendezvous. Today they will rally up to Virgin Gourda to party at the Bitter End Yacht Club.
