Save $$$ Servicing Your Own 15HP Mercury Outboard (4-Stroke) Episode 494
In this episode we walk through a full service on our 15HP Mercury 4-stroke outboard — the little workhorse that gets us to shore, hauls dinghy loads, and has to keep running when we're a long way from the nearest mechanic. If you own this engine (or any small 4-stroke outboard), this is the maintenance you can absolutely do yourself.
We cover changing the engine oil, the gearbox/lower unit oil, the spark plug, fuel filter, and the bits people forget — plus the tools you'll need and a few mistakes to avoid. Doing your own outboard service saves a small fortune and means you actually know your engine when something goes wrong offshore.
