Not many people know that you can weld stainless steel with SMAW (stick welding), but you absolutely can. With patience and careful working practices you can get very good results.
However, what happens if a stainless steel component fails when you are at sea and you don’t have access to a welding machine? You could – hypothetically speaking – make a DIY welder using your boat’s batteries and whatever cables you have to hand. This video shows you how to do that and what kind of results you might expect.
