Sailing to Moorea Was Hard, The Reward Made It Worth It

After weeks of exploring the remote atolls of the Tuamotus, it was finally time to sail to Moorea in French Polynesia.

What looked like a straightforward overnight passage quickly reminded us that the ocean always has the final say. Rough seas, seasickness, and an uncomfortable sail tested the entire crew, but the reward waiting on the other side made every mile worthwhile.

Arriving in Moorea brought more than stunning scenery. We enjoyed our first real grocery store in weeks, shared dinner with 17 fellow cruisers, experienced an incredible Polynesian fire dance performance, and made time for an adventure chosen just for the kids.

As many of our friends prepare to leave French Polynesia for New Zealand and cyclone season, Big Lost is staying behind to continue exploring these incredible islands. This chapter marks the beginning of a whole new adventure, and we're so glad you're along for the ride.

⛵ Thanks for joining our family's journey as we sail around the world aboard SV Big Lost.

Living on a sailboat gives “normal life” a whole new meaning. 😂 We take a boat to get diesel, hoist our transportation out of the water, work out on a moving floor, sail our home through the night… and sometimes wake up in a completely different neighborhood. We’re Trapped in Paradise… So This Is Boat Life Today

We only needed to sail three hours to Tahiti… but 25–30 knot winds had other plans. So instead, we’re waiting it out in Cooks Bay, Moorea—homeschooling, working out, watercoloring, baking cookies and finding ways to pass the time. There are definitely worse places to wait out the weather. ⛵️🌴 Follow...

Somehow, This Became Normal | Living on a Sailboat

Living on a sailboat has completely changed our definition of normal. Zooming across coral reefs in a dinghy, swimming with stingrays, meeting up with friends on the water, beach bonfires with people we just met at the anchorage, and starting the day with a swim. Somewhere along the way, the extraor...
