NAKED AND AFRAID Crossing the Sea of Cortez | Sailing Avocet

As our brave sailors set sail from Cabo San Lucas with anticipation bubbling up like the azure waves around them, little did they know of the trials that lay ahead in their quest to cross the mighty Sea of Cortez. With the winds howling at 25 knots and relentless 10-12 ft swells threatening to toss them about like a toy boat in a tempest, Chris and Allie’s daring adventure promised to test the limits of their strength, skill, and determination.

Leaving Cabo Behind

Sailing Avocet was no stranger to the capricious nature of the elements, having faced countless challenges since embarking on their quest to live their best lives in Mexico. Yet nothing could prepare them for the ferocity of Mother Nature’s wrath as she unleashed her fury upon the Sea of Cortez.

A Nightmarish First Passage

Their sails billowing in the gale, Chris and Allie braced themselves for a harrowing first night on the high seas. The snapping of the furling line punctuated the symphony of wind and waves like a thunderous bolt from the blue, leaving them with full canvas in 30-knot winds. In this terrifying tempest, it took all their grit to forge onward through the howling storm.

Strategies and Safety Measures

In the face of such peril, our heroes took every precaution to safeguard their vessel and themselves. As they boldly forged across the treacherous waves, Allie reflected on the strategic decisions that had enabled them to weather this particular storm.

The Phosphorescent Night

Amidst the darkened fury of the squall, one resplendent wonder illuminated the skies above – a spectacle that seemed almost otherworldly in its luminous beauty. As Allie took refuge at the helm during her watch, the mesmerizing phosphorescence that danced atop the breaking waves stole her breath away with every fleeting burst of light.

A Dream Realized on Chicala Beach

In the end, our hardy sailors would taste triumph – a testament to their indomitable spirit. With their journey’s most daunting challenge surmounted, they found solace in their shared achievements and basked in the warm embrace of each other and nature itself.

Welcome to Chicala

Surely no victory could surpass that of setting anchor in the inviting shallows of the chummy Chicala anchorage, with family and newfound friends by their side. With every care left on the open waves behind them, Chris and Allie eagerly looked forward to a new era where the spirit of adventure would forever pulse through their veins as they explored the enchanting realm of the Mexican mainland.

The Endless Journey

In a testament to their fortitude, Sailing Avocet’s voyage was far from over. As they embraced the comforts and warmth of Chicala, both on land and within the hearts of those around them, our sailors eagerly looked ahead to their next grand adventure in this breathtaking tropical paradise.
