S2E28 applying barrier coat on the hull (Dominican Republic)

In this exciting video, Sailing Artha takes on a significant milestone in their boating journey by applying a barrier coat to the hull of their vessel.

Preparing for the Barrier Coat Application

To start, the boat undergoes careful preparation. The crew identifies and fills any minor imperfections on the hull’s surface to ensure a smooth and even canvas for painting.

Mixing and Application of the Barrier Coat

Artha uses a combination of techniques and tools, adapting to accommodate smaller areas that require more precision. The outcome is not just aesthetic; it’s about protecting the hull from the elements.

Implications for Sailing Artha

The process, while rewarding, comes with its share of challenges. From managing boat dogs to dealing with health setbacks, the crew demonstrates resilience and dedication. Despite the hurdles, they maintain their enthusiasm for completing this essential task.

Outcome and Future Plans

The final result is a significant improvement in the boat’s appearance, with a gleaming new barrier coat that showcases Artha’s hard work. Moving forward, they aim to continue maintenance and improvements while exploring new destinations.

Lessons for Boating Enthusiasts

This episode offers valuable insights into hull protection, painting techniques, and the perseverance needed to tackle extensive boat maintenance. It’s an educational journey that all boating enthusiasts can learn from.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or just starting out, understanding the importance of a barrier coat can make a significant difference in preserving your vessel and ensuring safe, enjoyable voyages on the water.

Despite a few small obstacles, I manage to get the first coat of barrier on the hull. It’s not over yet. There’s still a lot of painting to do and my cast makes it super difficult and annoying. It’ll take me probably a week to finish prepping for Coppercoat.
