S2E22 Dogs and Cats of the DR, sorting hardware, and bee update (Dominican Republic)

Welcome back sailors and boat enthusiasts alike! In this episode, we delve into a range of exciting topics that our host Hade has been up to on his latest adventures, focusing mainly on his sailboat Mast overhaul, bee updates, and volunteer work at Coconut Hound Haven and the Luperon Parasites Pet Clinic in Dominican Republic. So, sit tight as we navigate through these interesting segments together.

Sailboat Mast Overhaul

Hade begins by updating viewers on the ongoing project to overhaul his sailboat’s Mast. He has stripped down the Mast completely, taking off all standing rigging hardware such as lights, fittings, screws, spreaders, and caps along with the track for the whisker pull. Hade discusses how he cleaned it using a sandpaper grit process until only pristine Aluminum remains.

Addressing Mast Corrosion Concerns

A lot of viewers have been concerned about the corrosion on Hade’s Mast, but in this video, he explains it’s largely due to electrolysis damage from old wires that were damaged by moisture. This does not affect the structural integrity of the Mast as seen with visual checks and touching, reassuring sailors that their beloved boat is indeed in good hands.

Bee Update

The time has almost arrived for Hade to remove the bees from his sailboat. Initially, he thought it would happen a couple of days before but sometimes, unforeseen delays occur. The honeybee removal date is fast approaching, and Hade intends to capture this event on camera as part of his ongoing documentation process.

Volunteer Work in the Dominican Republic

In the Dominican Republic, Hade has been dedicating his time and efforts to two noble causes. The first one is Coconut Hound Haven, a sanctuary for rescue dogs that are treated and put up for adoption.

For this project, Hade walks the dogs and plays with puppies, helping them get accustomed to human interaction and better prepared for future homes. The second cause he supports is the Luperon Parasites Pet Clinic, where he assists in preparing all medicines needed by organizing an efficient assembly line process.

Project Progress

Hade’s attention to detail and dedication are impressive, from cleaning the Norseman (a type of fitting) to going through his entire collection of hardware. His systematic approach ensures no part is overlooked in the Mast overhaul process. Hade’s methodical labeling helps him manage the assortment and know what he needs to order and what can be salvaged for future use.

Continued Gratitude and Support

In his typical style, Hade takes a moment to appreciate the viewers who continue to follow and support his journey. He emphasizes the importance of each viewer in making this project possible through their subscriptions, shares, likes, and even patron contributions that allow for further content production.

Overall, it’s a heartening reminder of how community support keeps these projects going strong, ensuring more engaging boat restoration adventures to look forward to in the future. Don’t forget to check out other detailed project documentation under Hade’s ‘Sailing Artha With An H’ playlist. Thank you for joining us on this exciting sailboat journey!

I start this video off with a little promo clip for an organization I volunteer at on a regular basis. You can help support the dogs and cats of the Dominican Republic by visiting their website: https://www.dcdr.org

The Coconut Hound Sanctuary and the Luperon Parasites Clinic are on different budgets, though supported by the same non-profit, DCDR.
My old boat gets splashed, and then I give an update on the mast and my current projects. Finally I wrap up with an update on my honeybees.
