Sailing Gabriel 1 – Episode 6 Crossing the Caribbean Sea
The time has come for us to leave the windward and leeward islands (we’re actually behind schedule) and cross the Caribbean Sea. In the book World Cruising Routes by Jimmy Cornell, this passage is reported by many experienced sailors as the roughest part of their round the world voyage.
We left Martinique and sailed directly to Bocas Del Toro in Panama. Just a short hop, only 1359.5 nautical miles taking us 9 days 9 hours and 8 minutes. Averaging 6 knots and recording a new top speed of 15.4 knots (surfing down a wave).
