Welcome to Our Neighborhood! – Catamaran Refit in St. Martin | SailAway Episode 273

Welcome to the latest episode of our series ‘Welcome To Our Neighborhood’ with SailAway World Sailing. Today, we dive into our current location – St. Martin – where we’re working on a catamaran refit project and sharing the local culture and lifestyle.

If you’ve ever dreamed of living aboard a sailboat and traveling around the world, join us as we share our experiences from building a boat to sailing in exotic locations. With every journey, we learn new things, make new friends, and find hidden gems in the places we visit.

Our Current Project

In this episode, we’re continuing our catamaran refit journey in St. Martin. After cruising for three years and exploring various destinations, we’ve finally set foot on this beautiful island to fix up our sailboat. Despite facing challenges like limited knowledge of the local language French, we’re determined to complete this project together.

St Martin Yacht Club

To enhance our sailing experience, we’ve signed up for an Associate Membership at the St. Martin Yacht Club, which grants us access to their small boats for practice and leisure. In a few weeks, we’ll also participate in a race with other members of the yacht club, hoping to refine our sailing skills together.

Local Adventures

In addition to working on our catamaran, we’ve explored the island by visiting local hardware stores and sampling some delicious treats at a nearby bakery. This island life has allowed us to indulge in the vibrant local culture and enjoy a balanced mix of work and play.

Weekend Wind Down

To end our busy weeks, we head to the Buccaneers Beach Bar every Friday for a fun-filled evening with other cruisers and their families. The kids have a blast with popcorn, cotton candy, and face painting, while adults enjoy cheap beer. Rivers also loves swimming in the lagoon before or after dinner.

Conclusion

Our journey of a catamaran refit in St. Martin continues, filled with new experiences and learning opportunities for us all. If you’re planning your own sailing adventure or just dreaming about it, join our SailAway World Sailing community. Stay tuned as we share more updates from our travels around the globe.

Till next time, fair winds and following seas!
