Unexpected Changes: Ryan & Sophie Sailing Update

Welcome back for another episode where we talk about what’s going on, both with us and in the sailing world! In this video, we dive deep into some unexpected changes that have affected our plans and dreams. After reflecting and giving it some time to simmer, we’re ready to share our current situation and outlook. Rental Apartment and Adjusting Plans Last year, Ryan and I embarked on establishing a home base in Annapolis. While we didn’t achieve our goal of purchasing a house, we have successfully secured a rental apartment and some furniture. We are currently exploring the possibility of acquiring a bigger boat to accommodate more crew members for upcoming adventurous trips. The Unexpected Collapse of Project Financing We had been working on a project that would help us finance the second boat. Initially, we hoped to finalize it by the fall but it continued through the winter and into 2023 without success. As Ryan, our co-founder of Lithium Batteries, had to take on more responsibility in his company due to unforeseen circumstances, our plans for acquiring the second boat this year have been put on hold. This sudden change required us to reevaluate and redefine our short-term sailing goals. The Scientific Expedition and New Ventures Although the scientific expedition to Greenland is cancelled this year, I joined a team from the Ocean Research Project on their Chesapeake Bay trip focusing on microplastic pollution. Matt, Si, Billy, and their crew welcomed me aboard the Mary Barge for 10 days of exploration and discovery. We collected data samples to contribute to the development of a monitoring program to help combat plastic pollution in the marine environment. Throughout the expedition, I shared stories about life on board, our findings on microplastics, and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay scenery. Adapting to Changes and Moving Forward The future holds both uncertainties and exciting new opportunities. Despite these unexpected changes, Ryan and I are focused on protecting our sailing lifestyle while maintaining hope for reaching our bigger dreams in due time. It’s essential to remember that sometimes achieving big goals requires patience and persistence. As we continue to adjust to the current situation and face new responsibilities head-on, we remain optimistic about future adventures aboard Polar Star II and beyond. A Grateful Ending Thank you for following along with us during these uncertain times. We’re grateful for your support and encouragement as we navigate this chapter of our lives.
