Ep 69 Co-Delivering sailing race boat 500NM to Malta with Sports Superstar
I’m invited by Alpine ski legend Ivica Kostelić to deliver his new Figaro 3 race boat (Amelicor) 500 NM to Malta so that he may race it in the Rolex Middle Sea race. Ivica demonstrates some of his sailing techniques (developed over 5 years of racing Class 40s) and we review some of the features of this boat (foils, 3D sail trim, comfortless interior, etc.). For 60% of the passage we alternate between 9 and 15 kts SOG, before the wind collapses on us.

Patrick Laine
Initially sailing single-handed on a Bavaria 40 sailboat in the Atlantic. Based in La Rochelle, France. Sold the Bavaria in early 2021, and bought a Bongo 8.70 meter (28 foot) made in France in 2009 (much smaller and faster than the Bavaria, but also, much less comfortable). After a circuit of the Atlantic during the Spring/Summer of 2022, I sold the Bongo and bought a new RM 890+. Adventures in the North Atlantic will continue.
