WHY We Love Living on Our Sailboat! | Sailing from La Gomera to Tenerife

Welcome back, guys! This time, we’re taking you along for our cruise from La Gomera to Tenerife. We have perfect sailing conditions, try to catch some fish, enjoy a wonderful sunset at anchor, and get a visit by some dolphins.

Hi there! I’m Pet, and this is Frankie. We’re a couple who ditched the 9-5, sold everything, and set sail with zero experience. Our mission? To explore the world, discover our idea home port, and establish our lifestyle brand.

Welcome aboard!

Street Food Festival

After enjoying a wonderful evening at a street food festival with our friends Julie and Dave, it was time to sail back to Tenerife. So we just started from La Gomera: “Goodbye, La Gomera! It was an amazing time, and we will definitely come back… or I think so.” At the moment, we are sailing back to Tenerife; this turn is around 80 miles.

Stopping for the Night

All over all this turn is around 80 mil, so we decided to make a stop at an anchor for one night and we have 8 knots of wind, and we are sailing five knots or almost five knots. So it’s perfect!

Easter Breakfast

In La Gomera, there was a very nice bakery, and we bought some super nice donuts today in the morning. So it’s time for Easter breakfast:

“Thank you! Enjoy! Happy Easter!” It’s going good today, but the waves are a bit confused. “Yeah, they are confused. It’s like a washing machine, and the boat is hanging in but the wind is also a little bit funky. It’s going from… I think the highest we’ve had is 17 knots of wind speed to three within like 20 minutes.”

Pet and Frankie on Sailing Conditions

This, they say about the typical Canary Island sailing – the wind is like unpredictable, especially between the islands. “Yeah, exactly,” says Frankie.

Dolphins Encounter

“That was bigger one.” How are you feeling? “Feeling good. It’s nice – the temperature is nice, the wind is jumping and the waves too but it’s nice.” And how are you feeling about sailing, are you feeling happy?

“Yeah, I’m happy. Is it exciting? It is exciting, but am I a little bit nervous? No, not at the moment. I’m not so nervous – waiting for the mosquitoes to bite.”

In Pet’s opinion, it is always exciting and you can always learn something – how the boat reacts and how everything goes. “At the moment, I’m not so nervous. I’m super happy that we can sail today!” says Frankie.

The Journey Continues

“Yeah, it was not sure with the weather forecast if we could but at the moment, it’s good… No, it’s perfect.” There is still a good day ahead, and now they are doing some speed again. “So, we’re at 6.5 knots, so it’s fine! Or what does the captain say?” It’s good,” says Frankie.

No Fish But Plenty of Adventure

There has been a lot of steering and wind, but no fish… not yet. “Oh my God, fish.” Steering wind… “Ah be but I’m not sure – is it a big one or not?” So no fish this time.

Closer to Tenerife

Now they are closer to Tenerife and “that was kind of strange situation at the moment… we had around 22 knots of wind and then it dropped down during seconds – down to three knots.” Crazy sailing conditions!

“So, now we decided because we have around 20 minutes left to take the sails down and um yeah motor to the anchor.” But at this time, “it’s still a bit swelly,” so they will see how it is. So what’s the plan?

Relaxation Time

The plan is that Pet is going to chill for five minutes because they’ve been steering the boat all day.

Maintenance on the Go

Frankie mentions cleaning the boat during sailing or the clamps, as they’re a bit salty and stuff. It’s a perfect moment to do it when there are no lines on it.

Meeting with Dolphins

These are moments that are truly beautiful – seeing dolphins. Each time gives us such a nice feeling. Maybe it’s because you can’t choose whether you will see them or not. They choose to see you, and this time there were so many. They had never seen such a big school of dolphins and stayed with them for some time.

“And on the horizon I can already see Santa Cruz,” says Pet. “It was so nice to be in La Gomera.”

Different Experiences

I think we both enjoyed the different island and just different neighborhood, and exploring so much,

“and it gave me also more energy to work again.”

The Value of Exploration

In Frankie’s opinion, what makes this life so nice is that you have the ability to work when you want and be flexible about it.

Obviously, you still need to work – even more than a normal 9-5 job. But,

“yeah we did some exploring and it felt like holiday.”

And after that, they did an intense one and a half weeks of working.

Sailing to Santa Cruz

Now they are coming back to Santa Cruz for boat maintenance. They will be changing their complete energy system,

“and I think we do have a bigger list of like small maintenance to do.”

A Perfect End to an Amazing Trip

In the last month, they were more on the laptop work for, so it’s time to get physical. “Tune in next time” says Pet,

“to see how we kick off the boat maintenance.” We had a big list of things to do but, “we can tell you the list got even longer with unexpected stuff.” Thanks for watching guys!
