Navigating the Unexpected and Saying Goodbye! Hawaii to Japan Part 2

Sailing across the vast Pacific Ocean is an adventurer’s dream come true, but for one solo sailor and their crew of new friends, turning that dream into reality comes with unforeseen twists and turns.

From Hawaii to Japan

The intrepid team aboard the vessel Ramona Ray set sail from Honolulu’s beautiful shores with high hopes, aiming to conquer rough seas and foreign ports.

The Unexpected

What began as an exciting start soon took a unexpected turn as they grappled with a series of logistical hurdles like connecting to the internet and sorting out departure paperwork, proving that no voyage goes exactly as planned.

Saying Goodbye

With just a week in Hawaii, their bonds with new friends proved deep, making their farewells all the more poignant. These connections brought unexpected richness to the journey.

Memorable Moments

Along the way, the crew faced choppy waters and high winds with their spirits never wavering. Through laughter and shared adventures, they bonded in unforgettable ways.

The Last Passage

In Naha, Okinawa, they anchored as one crewmate prepared for a poignant personal milestone. As the vessel passed around a point that held significance to her mother and late dog, she let go of a picture of her mom, surrounded by roses in memory.

A Dream Realized

Though this journey may mark the end of one dream, it also opens doors to new adventures and possibilities. Sailing from Hawaii to Japan proves that even with the inevitable loss of dreams or loved ones, connections forged at sea are everlasting.

Seasickness, compounded by a potentially fatal complication, compelled an abrupt emergency diversion. As it turns out the island we made it after battling into the wind and the waves for ten hours, hold`s special signifiance and provided a unique opportunity to celebrate my mother. Within minutes of docking, I received the heartbreaking news of my beloved Border Collie, Skylie's passing. Skylie, after whom my hyrdrovane was named, breathed her last breath while I, along with Tyler and Julia aboard Sailing Vessell Ramona, battled against the wind.

This episode is dedicated to my mother, whose Memorial service I couldn't attend last year, and Skylie.

To hear all the details, check out Part One and the live stream that Tyler, Julia, and I did. Thanks to @SailingRamona for some of this footage. Please follow them @SailingRamona
