Japan’s Worst Heat Wave in 135 Years – A Sailor’s Journey

A noisy neighbor prompted me to leave Imabari a couple days early. I decided to move to Nihama Marina which has a delightful beach beside it. An unprecedented heatwave was coming in Japan and I wanted to be able to have refreshing swims. Little did I know that the marina had concerns about sharks and swimming was prohibited! Which caused me to do some research and discovered that there seems to be a heightened awareness and reporting of sharks in the Seto Inland Sea generally. It was great to have fellow sailors and friends Tyler and Julia come and camp for a night by the beach and spend some time together on board Wahine.
