A letterbox drop, as chaotic as it may look sometimes (especially this one… it wasn’t the cleanest) is in my mind as important to learn if you’re flying spinnakers as it is to learn how to lower a jib or mainsail, if not more so. While there are socks and furlers for spinnakers that work fairly well, they do malfunction from time to time (user error or equipment failure), and when they do, it’s vital to know how to drop a spinnaker without one of those pieces of equipment.
Our Lady Defiant
We live on our J-133, named Defiant, and sail along the California coast when we're bored of sailing in our home port of San Francisco Bay. We love to race, as well as cruise, so we bought a boat that does both, and we use it for both regularly! We also have a cat, named Whiskey, who we bring along with us for all the adventures.
