CRUISING 37 HRS ACROSS THE SEA OF CORTEZ 🕒 (& the 15 unexpected guests that took over our boat!)

The moment has finally arrived. At 4:00 AM, under a pitch-black sky, we pull up the anchor at Bahía de los Muertos and wave goodbye to the Baja Peninsula. Ahead of us lies a 312 nautical mile, 37-hour open ocean crossing across the infamous Sea of Cortez to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle in Banderas Bay.

This is what our Nordhavn 57 was built to do! In this episode, we take you along for the raw, real reality of offshore passage-making. We share our raw overnight watch video diaries as Pat and Alexa split the shifts in the dark, navigating by the glow of our helm screens.

But an open ocean crossing is rarely without a hitch. Mid-passage, issues arise, forcing an unexpected underway fuel filter change to keep the main engine humming. We also get some company in the middle of nowhere—a wild flock of 15 Booby birds decide to hitch a ride on our bow pulpit, turning Noeta into a floating bird sanctuary!

Watch the journey unfold from the pitch-black departure to the sweet relief of catching the lines and tying up at the dock on the Mexican Mainland.

In This Episode:

The 4 AM Departure: Heading out into the open ocean in total darkness.

Night Watch Diaries: Raw, unedited updates from Pat and Alexa during the midnight shifts.

Underway Maintenance: Swapping fuel filters miles from the nearest coastline.

The Hitchhikers: Managing a full-on invasion of 15 Booby birds on deck.

Mainland Arrival: Successfully tying up in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle!
