Sailing the Caribbean on a Large Ketch
Join M Jambo as they set sail across the beautiful Caribbean Sea aboard their impressive ketch, Rhea. This 54-meter-long vessel is not just big, it’s also luxurious and provides an amazing platform for exploring stunning locations in style.
Discovering Incredible Destinations
During this episode, M Jambo and their guests visit a variety of breathtaking locations including St Martin, Anguilla, Saba Island, and Statia. They make use of local anchorages while taking care to avoid damaging coral reefs. Even better is the opportunity for snorkeling in crystal clear waters teeming with exotic fish.
Getting up Close and Personal
Not only does this episode showcase the stunning destinations visited, but it also gives viewers a unique insight into life aboard Rhea. From sleeping quarters to luxurious lounges, from a fully equipped kitchen run by their skilled chef to the comfortable navigation room filled with modern technology, every aspect of the yacht is explored in detail.
A Luxurious Experience
M Jambo ensures their audience experiences not only the grandeur of Rhea but also the excitement of sea journeys. There’s night sailing under the stars, relaxing beach picnics accompanied by delicious meals prepared by talented chefs, and evenings spent enjoying local culture in authentic bars and restaurants.
An Unforgettable Experience
The episode is rounded off with the Captain’s Dinner, where the crew thanks everyone for a great time and for becoming ‘part of the crew’. This episode is indeed a fantastic portrayal of an amazing journey that will leave viewers inspired and yearning to explore their own piece of paradise in the Caribbean.
Sailing on Rhea
Rhea is a special vessel. With 54 meters in length, it offers more space for luxury and leisure than your typical sailboat or yacht. Equipped with sails from the for’d mast all the way to the mizzen mast at the back, it’s well designed for cruising in open seas. Its maximum height of 48m from the waterline adds to its majestic appearance.
Technical Details
A few technical details include the ship’s draft of 4.3 meters, meaning it requires at least some water depth for safe navigation, and an engine that’s more powerful than most yachts at 600 horsepower – although, as highlighted by M Jambo, their preference is to use sails when possible.
A Tour of Rhea
M Jambo gives viewers a guided tour of the vessel. This includes a peek at living quarters, with cozy double cabins offering en-suite bathrooms and electric toilets, the spacious salon, and even a look at the engine room where power plants including an engine generating 600 horsepower reside alongside facilities for making water, storing diesel and wastewater.
Final Thoughts
This journey, according to M Jambo, was about more than just sailing. It became an opportunity for everyone on board – both guests and crew alike – to become part of something larger. The video is a celebration of shared experiences, good company, delicious food, amazing scenery, and most importantly, the love for adventure and discovery that drives such expeditions.
Interested in Your Own Caribbean Adventure?

Many companies offer similar experiences aboard a variety of yachts and ships. The beauty of traveling by sailboat means not only an eco-friendly trip but often luxurious accommodations and the thrill of the wind filling your sails.
Sailing Adventure Opportunities
Remember, adventures are for those who seek them. So go ahead, throw off the mooring lines, hoist your sails, and catch the wind. Your journey awaits.
We have the opportunity to sail on a large ketch and spend a week on the sailing vessel Rhea in the Caribbean. We start in St. Martin and sail via Anguilla to St. Barth and back again. On one hand, it is a completely different sailing experience for us on a 54 m long ship, but on the other hand, the principle of sailing is similar to what we are used to.
In any case, it is a great and impressive week.
Many thanks to Sailing Classics!
