The crew set off from Princess Cove for a week of sailing around the Gulf Islands, aiming to visit several scenic locations including Montague Harbour and Ganges. They also explored Todd Inlet on Salt Spring Island where they discovered interesting history and lots of jellyfish in the area.
The crew is initially staying put for a few days at their location in Princess Cove, making sure that everything’s running smoothly and everyone has had a chance to get comfortable with the boat.
With some wind and sunshine on their side, they’re able to make use of both headsails and staysails to sail effectively throughout the trip. They encounter various weather conditions but manage them skillfully.
A short distance from the marina, the group anchored in Princess Cove and stayed there for a few days. They found it to be an ideal spot due to its calm waters, easy access to amenities and stunning surroundings.
As they left Princess Cove, they sailed through the Gulf Islands towards Montague Harbour. They enjoyed a smooth journey with occasional engine assistance to get them through tighter areas and then managed to sail into the harbour without much trouble.
The group then made their way from Montague Harbour to Ganges, which involved more sailing with some engine help when needed. They spent two nights in this location before heading out for Todd Inlet.
With a longer distance to cover this time, they navigated their way through various winds and sail options until they arrived at Todd Inlet. Upon arrival, they found that the area was filled with jellyfish. The crew settled in for a peaceful night, fully enjoying their surroundings.
The group took the time to explore nearby trails and discover historical sites linked to an old cement factory that used to exist there. The remnants of this former industry now include foundations, pilings and – most notably – the beautiful Butchart Gardens.
For dad, his favourite part of the adventure was the stop at Wallace Island, which features a sign-covered building and hot springs – a testament to years gone by. For Tate and the skipper, it was Todd Inlet’s concentration of jellyfish and its peaceful atmosphere.
The week-long trip comes to a close with fond memories and anticipation of future cruises. The skipper, dad and Tate reflect on the journey, the incredible places they visited and their hopes for more adventures in store.

Detailed descriptions of the navigation process during the trip, including the use of different sails (head sail and stay sail), sail adjustments for wind direction, motor assistance where needed and overall boat performance are highlighted.
