Following Rhode Island Clams From SEA TO TABLE – Travel Like a Local | Harbors Unknown Ep. 35
Traveling is a source of great fulfillment for us. Learning about the culture, the environment, and connecting with people to get a pulse on a place is what really lights our fire. Food is a huge part of culture, so we’ve been diving into all things shellfish in Rhode Island. We found it’s a topic rife with controversy on the commercial and recreational level. From environmental restrictions, to conflict between landowners and shell fishermen, competition amongst one another, and the privatization of waterfront, it’s quite the drama. Though, everyone could agree upon one thing; shellfish are one of Rhode Island’s greatest treasures.
Since we’re spending time in Rhode Island we wanted to dig a bit deeper into the story of this much-loved bi-valve. We connected with Chris and Bob, a local diver and raker respectively, through a Facebook group and managed to meet up with them to learn what quahogging is like today. Plus Fabio cooks up a masterpiece at the end. You won’t want to miss it!
A huge thanks to Tyler Murgo for allowing us to use clips from his beautiful short film, Son of the Sea, featuring Davy from Andrade’s Catch. Check out the full film here: https://vimeo.com/280435592
We’re also very grateful to Chris Migliori, the diver, and Bob Goulet, the raker, for their time and sharing their local expertise, to Andrade’s Catch and Gianfranco from Lucky Dog Tavern for allowing us to film their businesses. Check out Andrade’s Catch here: https://www.andradescatchri.com/

This has been a special project for us and we hope you enjoy it! We’d love to hear what you think, so leave us a comment down below, and give the video a thumbs up. Thank you!!
If you’re new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our #Seawind1600 #catamaran, Wanderlust, in September. We plan to sail her to Harbors Unknown, and explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We share the adventures of #boatlife and how it’s possible to live an #alternativelifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. We have just set off on our world voyage, after exploring the beautiful waters of #SouthFlorida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas. Subscribe now to join our #sailingadventure.
