Boat Life in the Bahamas on our Seawind 1600 – Cambridge Cay + Staniel Cay | Harbors Unknown Ep. 29

This week we’re exploring the absolutely stunning Exumas Land + Sea Park on our @SeawindCatamarans boat. We’re starting off at Cambridge Cay, also known as Little Bells Cay, a private island that welcomes visitors ashore. The 176-square-mile Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park was the first of its kind in the world and was established by the Bahamas National Trust in 1959 to protect the native flora and fauna, natural communities, and ecosystems such as mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs that represent the biodiversity of the Park. It’s also a wildlife haven – a complete no take zone since 1986 and serves as critical habitat for threatened species such as the hawksbill turtle, Nassau grouper, queen conch and an array of nesting seabirds.

Not only are we enjoying the park, but also a different way of life with new rituals and an awareness and intention that isn’t required in a traditional lifestyle on land. Taking Yoda to shore is one of those rituals we truly enjoy. It forces us to get off the boat, move a bit and explore places we may not have otherwise.

After enjoying a hike with stunning views and drifting in the lazy river we left Cambridge Cay for Staniel Cay, just 10 NM south, to reconnect with civilization (really the internet) and get a little work done.

Join us next week as we explore some pretty spectacular caves and lagoons in this area of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. If you like this video give it a thumbs up, leave us a comment down below, share it with a friend and be sure to subscribe. Thanks for watching and we’ll see you next week.

If you’re new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our #Seawind1600 #catamaran, Wanderlust, in September. We plan to sail her to Harbors Unknown, and explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We share the adventures of #boatlife and how it’s possible to live an #alternativelifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. Until we officially begin our world voyage, we’re exploring the beautiful waters of #SouthFlorida and the Florida Keys. Subscribe now to join our #sailingadventure.
