We’ve done some pretty amazing things over the years but this adventure sits prominently near the top. It seems like a mountain of impossibilities, never in my life would I have imagined:
1. I’d drive a dinghy 5 miles out into the open ocean.
2. I’d be comfortable enough to jump into the deep abyss and just start swimming.
3. I’d get to watch a massive humpback whale swim right up and look into my soul (and nearly touch my camera with his nose).

I know some people will feel strongly about this vid, but you should know we had conversations with several whale tour operators, the FP government and the whale protection agency. We did our research and have written approval before we attempted to swim with Humpback Whales without a guide. At this time 2018/2019 it is legal to swim with the whales in French Polynesia from a private boat…as long as you understand and follow the rules, but most importantly they want you to respect the whales.

I truly hope you enjoy this adventure. I (Jason) invested about 3x as many hours as I should have in the video edit, and Nikki scoured through 3000+ images to narrow it down for the article on our site.
