CRF: Car fire at our storage unit!

From the cutting room floor!
When we sold everything to purchase Flow, we had some stuff left over in storage units. Unfortunately after termites, 2 hurricanes, and the cost of solar and batteries, we were unable to afford storage. On the night we went to empty our unit, a car in the parking lot caught fire. We immediately called 9 1 1 and were told the fire department was already on the way.
We stayed back a fair distance in case of an explosion, and no one was in the car or hurt, but it was quite an impressive fire.
I believe the car was a convertible BMW and every time the firemen would hit the top with the water hose, a huge bright white ball of sparks would erupt, as if from white phosphorus or burning magnesium. Does anyone know what causes this?
