Venezuela: Dangerous or Safe for Cruisers?

Join us as we delve into a conversation with my friend Azum and Yens from the boat ‘Dilly D’ as they share their firsthand experience sailing in Venezuela. They’ve debunked the widely held belief that it’s dangerous for cruisers by having an unforgettable time at these often overlooked Caribbean islands.

Our friends sailed to some of the smaller islands off the Venezuelan coast, staying there for more than a month and not encountering any issues or piracy during their stay. In fact, they experienced nothing but warmth and hospitality from locals they met along the way.

The Truth About Sailing in Venezuela

So, what’s the truth about sailing in Venezuela? Are we ready to reconsider our opinions and embrace a destination that others have warned us away from?

The Unlikely Decision Makers

For those of you who may be hesitant to follow the path these intrepid sailors took, it wasn’t necessarily a conscious decision. They simply didn’t find themselves traveling through Venezuela as they crossed the Atlantic.

Navigating the Uncharted Waters of Public Perception

The perception of danger can be a powerful deterrent, and sometimes we are quick to heed warnings without thoroughly investigating whether or not they’re valid. As these sailors discovered, there may still be some hidden gems left in the world of travel destinations that haven’t been overruled by fear.

Venezuela’s Islands – A Paradise Worth Visiting

The islands of Venezuela hold a unique allure that draws cruisers to visit time and time again. While they may lack some of the amenities of larger Caribbean destinations, their beauty and welcoming spirit make them a haven for those seeking a more authentic experience.

Exploring Further

To discover more about these remarkable islands and the adventures to be found there, consider checking out Dilly’s channel, which offers a wealth of information on their journey through Venezuela. Although some segments may be in German, they provide English subtitles to ensure everyone can enjoy the content.

Reconsidering Your Destination

This account of Venezuela is just one example of a group of cruisers who discovered that the often-cited dangers weren’t present during their visit. Perhaps it’s time to revisit some of our long-standing beliefs and consider new destinations that offer an enriching travel experience.

So, when you’re planning your next sailing adventure or considering which destination to choose for a cruise vacation, give Venezuela a second thought. You never know what treasures might be waiting for you in this beautiful and diverse part of the world.

For some time, Venezuela has been a no-go zone for sailors, due to crime and piracy fears. But this month I met some sailors who spent some time in Venezuela very recently. In this video, we sit down and talk about their experience. Is it safe?
