Clark from Temptress recently uploaded a video discussing his experiences with building a battery using Headway cells similar to one in this episode. Although he had opened it for demonstration purposes earlier, this particular battery showcases five of the ten-amp-hour Headway cells in a parallel roll configuration. These red stick-like cells pack a punch and can provide significantly more power compared to Prismatic cells.
Available in different styles, the Headway cells offer flexibility for various applications. These cells come in both ten-amp-hour and eight-amp-hour options, providing substantial power output when needed.
In this specific battery configuration, four rows of Headway cells are connected in series, creating a nominal 12V battery. By combining all ten-amp-hour cells in parallel, the battery achieves an impressive total capacity of 50 amp-hours. This arrangement is particularly advantageous for smaller batteries that can benefit from increased power delivery.
To create the necessary connections, Clark uses copper tubing as the main bus bar for joining. For parallel connections between batteries, he employs hammered flat copper tubing with drilled holes. Additionally, custom-made copper bars connect the cells efficiently.
An active balance system is incorporated into the battery design to monitor cell voltages and equalize them when necessary. This helps maintain optimal performance and longevity of the cells.
A 50-amp BMS (Battery Management System) is used to regulate charging and discharging currents, ensuring the battery’s safe operation. The chosen BMS allows for a 30A charge rate, which aligns with Clark’s usage of this specific battery.
To assemble the battery, various components such as wire connectors and circuit breakers are utilized. A large circuit breaker is installed on the negative wire to allow external control of the system’s power.
In his video, Clark discusses enhancing the battery design by relocating the active balance system for better integration. He also improves cable management and ensures that connections are secure.
The final assembly involves properly placing the cells, connecting wires, and securing all components in the waterproof casing. Attention is given to wire management, ensuring a tight fit and proper sealing of the battery.
If you want to build your own Headway cell-based battery, this video provides a comprehensive guide. By following the steps outlined in Clark’s previous hour-long tutorial on building waterproof batteries using flat Prismatic cells, you can gain further insights and knowledge for constructing efficient power sources tailored to your specific needs.

A couple of weeks ago I did a rather long video on building up a waterproof battery. In that video I showed a bit of this battery and have received requests for more information on it.
So here's a short (the last video was like an hour) video on how I built up thelis 50ah dinghy motor battery.
You may want to watch the other video as it goes into much more detail.
