Last season, we made a video about how sailors in George Town, Exuma do “social media”–the morning VHF Cruisers’ Net each morning. We typically talk about beach parties, what we have to trade, and what’s going on in town. But with a complete weekend lockdown in the Bahamas due to COVID-19, the daily discussion has evolved into a more serious and news-driven one: How many people have died? Where can we get food and water? Will we be able to get home? What new orders do we need to follow? As visitors in this country, it’s sometimes difficult to know how to handle the new situation. Luckily, we have this great communication tool to stay in touch and discuss these things, so we don’t have to do it alone.

So here’s a recap of a day in the life of hosting the net, in the current, ever-changing pandemic situation, to give you a feel of what it’s like to be on a boat in the Bahamas right now.

For comparison, here’s a more typical “daily net” from George Town last year: https://youtu.be/iFnK0a9ZX3Y

P.S. Emily has some pretty normal seasonal, morning allergies that are pretty evident in this video. We have no reason to suspect it’s COVID-19, and have been isolated alone on our boat for 10 days now.
