Time to HAUL OUT!! After living aboard SV SeaScape for 18 months, it’s time to haul out!
Haul out? What’s a haul out I hear some of you ask.
Well, a haul out is where we take our floating home out of the water for some time, out of her comfort zone, and have her hull (nautical term for her bottom) cleaned and a couple of fresh coats of specialised antifoul paint applied.
Why is a haul out necessary? Because the hull is submerged in the ocean, creatures and crustaceans tend to grow and multiply. This slows the boat down considerably and a haul out is necessary to keep her in good nick. She’s our home, and we need to look after her, inside and out!
We take advantage of our time in Simonstown and spend a week out on the hard at False Bay Yacht Club. Once back in the water, she sails like a dream, getting up to 10 knots in a light breeze…
Thanks for watching!
Much love,
Captain Rob, Charlotte and sailor girl Moya
